Key 1 Kiyah Key Mrs. Amy Laptad English 101 08 June 2008 Why Volunteer Have you ever wondered why people volunteer? There is no defined book answer on why people volunteer. People generally volunteer for altruistic reasons or a sense of giving back. A volunteer may feel like they achieved something by making a difference. Everyone has their own reason for why they volunteer. People volunteer either to help others, to learn new skills for a job, or to meet new people. There are three different levels used to categorize why people volunteer and also to recruit volunteers. The different levels consist of self-driven, relational, and their personal beliefs. To me a volunteer is a person who helps others and do not expect anything in return. One reason people volunteer is to fulfill their own self interests. This form of volunteering is considered self-serving. Self-serving volunteers associate themselves with organizations that meet their needs. As a self-serving volunteer it allows them to gain business. It has been said that
