Cross Cultural Perspectives March 26, 2006 Professor Akinsanya Dadi’s Family Dadi’s Family Dadi’s Family is a very comprehensive look at Indian women who live in the countryside of India. They are isolated from the cities of India, and live in very antiquated surroundings. The Dadi is the patriarch of the family. She is the mother, stepmother, wife, grandmother, and as they put it the “manager” of the family. In India when people who live in the countryside marry, the bride goes to live with the groom’s family. So the Dadi has to manage her own children, and their wives and children. She has to delegate the work in the family, and who does what

These women just do labor their entire lives and basically live in the same place their whole lives and never do anything. What really shocked me was a quote from the movie that said, we can bear anything because we all suffer together. This quote surprised me because the women realize that theyre lives will be the same day in and day out. It is really sad to me to see the way these people live. But in reality they dont really know anything different. So in their case you hope the saying, ignorance is bliss is a true statement....
