Purpose:The purpose of this experiment is to explore the relationship between current and voltage in Ohmic materials. In addition, the characteristics of resistors in series and parallel connections will be studied. In order to measure resistance, dc voltage and dc current, useDMM. The use of light bulbs in series and parallel connections will also be observed. Theory:When a voltage potential difference, V, is applied across a material, the current, I, in the material is found to be proportional to the voltage. The resistance, R, is defined as the ratio of the applied voltage and the resulting current, as defined in the equation:R = VIBy the conservation of charges, the current flow to each resistor is the same, (I = I1= I2), however the sum of the voltage drops is different, shown by the equation:V = V1+ V2= ( R1+ R2 ) = I RsWhere, Rsis the equivalent resistance of R1and R2in a series connection.
