ECONOMICS 448 FINAL EXAM FALL 2005 Instructions: This exam is due 72 hours after you have picked it up. Please indicate the time you picked up the exam and the time you turned it in at the beginning of the exam. A letter grade will be subtracted for every hour it is late. You can turn the exam in directly to me, turn it in to Linda Mauro, or email it to me as an attached Word document. You may consult the readings, your class notes, me, and any other resource other than another human being. If you quote a reading directly, paraphrase, or use a specific person’s idea, you must cite your source. Use parenthetical citations. The names of the authors and the page number are a sufficient citation for this exam. If I am given any reason to believe that unethical behavior has occurred, I will not hesitate to initiate judicial proceedings against you. Your answers must be typed and double-spaced, using a 12 pt font. Answers will be penalized for exceeding the maximum length. The points and the maximum word limit are in parentheses. Please number the pages. Your grade will be based partially on your use of language. Please proofread carefully for common grammatical and spelling errors. On several of the questions, you can choose the article on which to base your answer. Use as many different articles and theories as you can. Some of the questions can overlap, but your answers to them should not. In particular, on questions 1, 2 & 3, I ask for you to relate a concept to a paper that your classmates presented. You may not use the article that you presented to answer these questions. You also must use a separate article to answer each of these questions. For all of the questions, I am looking for a good synthesis of the material we covered in class. Write well-reasoned answers that clearly define and explain all of the relevant concepts and apply them in an intelligent manner. Don’t be afraid to flex your intellectual muscle. You may call me at my office (332-3820) any time. I also will check my e-mail throughout exam week. 1
