Geography: Location Off the eastern coast of Asia 125 miles from Korea(the usual entryway). 28 miles from Sakhalin. 500 miles to Russian mainland. Close but not too close to Asian mainland . Borrowed from China (often via Korea) Avoided Mongol invasion
