Anaphylactic- severe allergenic reaction from drug, symptoms are respiratory distress/vascular collapse, antidote is epinephrine Generic- lower case Trade/Brand- capitalized Drug classification- usage, body system, chemical or pharm class Drug preparation- oral, topical, parenteral, Absorption Drug into bloodstream Acidic drugs well absorbed into stomach High soluble and blood perfusion absorb faster Fastest- IV, Inhalation, IM, Sub Q, PO, Topical, Transdermal Distribution Drugs into tissue and organs Poor circulation can inhibit distribution such as peripheral vascular and cardiac disease Lipid soluble can cross the blood brain barrier or placenta Plasma protein binding allows the drug to enter and leave the tissues Metabolism Liver, changes it to less active form or inactive form Age, metabolism decreases IV passes the first pass effect Excretion Kidneys, kidney disorder can inhances intensity and duration of drug GI tract thru bile Sweat/Salivary/Mammary glands other ways of secretion Pharmodynamic Agonist- Meds that mimic the receptor Antagonist- Meds that block receptor activity Synergistic- 2 or more drugs work together to enhance each others effects Idosynergistic- Abnormal and random Trough Level- lowest concentration, measure it from one hour before next admin. Peak- Highest concentration, measure it one hour after admin ORAL ADMIN Pt to sit at 90 degrees, facilities swallowing Avoid grapejuice Admin 30min-1 hr before meal or 2 hrs after meal
