Jess Slonim Specific Purpose: To persuade the audience to support female sports. INTRODUCTION America is a land of opportunity, equality and freedom. It is a place where people can come and have rights and be able to do the things they want to do and be the people they want to be. Title IX of the education amendments act of 1972 was set up for that reason. However, some men athletes believe that they are in a completely different world than women and should not be compared to one another, while others believe that Title IX is making limited progress over the years and is more of a hassle to keep around than to “try” and make work. BODY I. The first argument is about men believing they are above and beyond women and yet still think everyone is being treated the same. A. The numbers for adding and dropping teams is still significantly different between the men’s and women’s side. I. Between 1981 to 1999, there were 3,784 women’s teams added and 36 men’s. But today there are still about 170,000 men’s teams and about
