Jess Slonim Specific Purpose: To inform the audience about the invention of Gatorade. INTRODUCTION Has anybody ever heard of Dr. James Robert Cade? Dr. Cade was born is San Antonio in 1927 and later served in the U.S. Navy. He also became a professor of medicine and physiology at the University of Florida. However, these interesting facts have little to do with how Dr. Cade became famous for inventing a sports drink in 1966 that people of all ages love to this day, the invention of Gatorade. I will now talk about the background of how Gatorade was invented, how it affects athlete’s performance, and how far the invention has come. BODY I. First, I will discuss how the invention of Gatorade came about. A. Before Gatorade, people were drinking orange juice or a sugar containing soft drink. I. II. Expect juice or soft drinks would function well to provide rehydration during exercise. B.
