Bordetella Pertussis Gram Negative; approximately .8µm by .04µm; rod shaped; encapsulated; does not produce spores. Non-motile, strict aerobe. Most commonly known as the causative agent behind Pertussis, commonly known as whooping cough. The bacterium can be destroyed by the DTaP vaccine, which resulted in less than 30 American children dying in 2000, as opposed to 297,000 worldwide.
