Marissa D. Statler Media Literacy Assignment #1 I conducted my media fast on Sunday, September 9, 2007. During this day I realized just what an important role that media plays in my everyday life. From the significant to the trivial, media has a huge impact on almost every aspect of my life. First thing every morning, I start up my computer and check my e-mail accounts for new information from my professors and friends and then turn on my local news station for statewide news and logon to MSNBC.com for national headlines. During my media fast I started my day feeling highly uninformed of what was happening in the world around me, something as simple as flipping on the television to check local news and weather has become such a standard in my life that I felt very uneasy beginning my day without it. Throughout the course of my day, I found myself wondering what messages might be in my inbox, not checking my e-mail and my Facebook account were difficult, but the most difficult media to avoid was television.
