Textual Analysis of Book 1, Chapter 11 in Don Quixote By David White In chapter eleven, Don Quixote and Sancho Panza decided to take a break from their journey where which they received a hearty welcome from some goatherds. Sancho after “accommodating Rocinante and the donkey” set off on the trail of the smell being given out by meat cooking over a fire. Upon their arrival, “showing great goodwill” the goatherds invited them to share their meal. Happily the two accept this modest proposal. There were six goatherds that were sitting around the fire on animal skins. After begging Don Quixote to sit on the upside- down bowl, he did so while Sancho Panza remained standing there by his side. With great pride Don Quixote turned to Sancho and said “What great good there is in knight-errantry”. He then invited the troubled Sancho to sit beside him, but Sancho refused Don Quixote’s request. After saying this he seized Sancho by the arm and forced him to squat by his side. Sancho realized that Don Quixote was offended by his actions, therefore remained there squatted by his side.
