Upon arrival at the camp Hermes casts a spell of sleep on the Achaeans. Once in the camp he leads Priam to the camp of Achilles and opens the gates. (457) This is when Hermes revealed his true self to Priam and advises him on how to ask Achilles for the return of his son Hektors body. Hermes then disappears into thin air leaving Priam to consult with Achilles. As dawn began to approach Hermes returned to Priam and safely led the grieving father and his dead son Hektor back to Troy. There his family had eleven days to give a proper burial to Hektor.
