They did not take into account the cultural aspects of Japan and paid the price. Now McDonalds has changed their strategy to better compete in the Japanese market and are now oriented more multi-domestically. This change away from the ethnocentric view and international market strategy will give McDonalds the edge and allow them to net higher profits in the near future. -Aggressive market strategy: McDonalds is taking an aggressive market stance by consciously engaging the local competition. They are adding new culturally accepted items to the menu, staying open 24 hours, and exploiting economies of scale to drive down costs and eventually drive their competitors out of business.
