CHAPTER SUMMERIES 1-3 Chapter 1 Chapter one introduces us to the supply chain management by defining the process, which is primarily the “idea of coordinating or integrating a number of goods and services related amongst supply chain participants to improve operating efficiencies, quality and customer service among the collaborating organizations” (Wiesner, Tan Leong, Principles of SCM). We are also shown the importance of SCM and how it effect profit margins, production, and mitigating factors that lower cost. Chapter 1 explains the foundation of SCM and Its origins as it relates to its rising popularity and practice in the United States. There are many factors that can change the dynamic of a firms SCM strategies such as: political, environmental, and technological forces. However, the use of 3 rd and 4 th party logistics providers can manage and help firms navigate through the challenges of an expanding global market.
