FINAL PROJECT: WALMART Abstract The purpose and scope of Walmart being a corporate responsible company is to be as sustainable as possible looking into the avenues of profits, people, and planets. A balance between economic progress, social responsibility and environmental protection, sometimes referred to as the triple bottom line, can lead to competitive advantage. Nine years ago, Lee Scott created a sustainability program in which case they understand with its company’s size, comes great responsibility and about 90% of Walmart’s impact, its sustainability footprint, is from the products they sell. Through NGO’s also known as non-governmental organizations, Walmart makes product decisions such as looking into fertilizer feed Walmart has partnered with 16 suppliers representing 40% of its food sales to focus on fertilizer optimization. Every time Walmart cuts back on packaging, fuel, and electricity, Walmart saves money. Every penny they adds up for their customers, their shareholders and their future. Speaking of the future, Walmart is forecasted to make progress on its key social and environmental responsibility goals including its renewable energy target of producing 7bn kilowatt hours of renewable electricity by 2020.

FINAL PROJECT: WALMART Solution Based Consulting Report: Introduction Looking into the history, some accomplishments and short and long term impacts, Walmart has a very interesting concept and with some trial and errors, they have created some analysis issues I will look into. History 1 “Sam Walton created Walmart to bring affordable household products to people in small towns. He put the customer first, building a strong company with dedicated associates and deeply rooted values of service, excellence, integrity and respect for the individual. More than 50 years later, customers in 27 countries around the world trust Walmart to bring them food, apparel, household goods and other general merchandise at everyday low prices through stores and e-commerce – anytime, anywhere. Along the way, Walmart has grown into the world’s largest company. We have more than 11,000 retail locations, employing more than 2 million associates and thousands of suppliers who, in turn, employ millions of people” (Walmart, pg.1).

FINAL PROJECT: WALMART Analysis of the Issues Sound business practices: The costs and benefits of a sustainability strategy are cross- dimensional throughout an organization, not firmly lodged in any one functional area. Furthermore, many economic benefits of sustainability initiatives are often seen as intangible and therefore difficult to measure. Because damage costing focuses on site- specific impacts and provides a realistic estimate of external damages, it is able to assign an economic value to nonmarket commodities.
