Lucinda Porter Short paper #1 2/21/2015 According to Peter Block in Flawless Consulting (2011), he makes the distinction of how you can identify a consultant and what their functions are. “Consulting in general is simply giving advice to someone who is faced with a choice. A consultant is a person in a position to have some influence over an individual, a group, or an organization but has no direct power to make changes or implement programs. The recipients of all of this advice are called clients.” (Block, pg. 3). Internal and external consultants share the same characteristics of mainly helping their clients that addresses issues and improve business operations by their sound wisdom to make things run smoother. However theyre some distinctions we must address before I can reveal why I would rather be in a position of the external consultant. Internal consulting is someone who is hired inside the organization to use their expertise in other departments to satisfy a need or desiring a necessary change. According to Beverly Scott and Jane Hascall in Inside or Outside: Internal and External Consultants, they depict how internal consulting has its own perspectives and objectivity they use to gain the
