STRUCTURE OF POLICE DEPARTMENTS Abstract There are many different types of law enforcement agencies. There are federal, state, and local agencies throughout the United States. I will be discussing the differences between our city (municipal) and our sheriff’s department. The structure of police departments is very important and is important that one can tell the difference. I will be discussing the city of Dallas located in Texas which is a big city. I will also discuss the Dallas county sheriff’s department. 2

STRUCTURE OF POLICE DEPARTMENTS City’s Demographics The city of Dallas has an estimated population of 1.28 million. That is a very huge city. Dallas, located in North Texas , is the 9th largest city in the United States and the 3rd largest in Texas.”(1) The population per square mile is 3,517.6. There are 142,658 firms in Dallas. 67.8 people in Dallas are in the labor force. Dallas is a big city full of people.
