Drop Out Rate of Urban Kids 1. Kids in urban America are starting to drop out at an alarming rate A. Poverty, high crime, drug abuse, and teen pregnancy are just a few reasons why urban kids are dropping out of school. These problems seem to plague the urban community. B. The dropout rate of urban kids is at an all-time high. Though, this situation is not a lost caused it needs to be addressed. We need to get to the root of the problem, so that we may rectify the situation. 2. Urban youth are having a very hard time completing/graduating school . A. Graduation rate for urban youth has drop to 50% B. Black males have an even lower graduation rate Most urban youth have a lack of guidance. A. The feeling that no one cares makes them lose motivation B. Sometimes there is no one to help them with their homework at home. Poverty plays a role in urban youth drop out A. The kids live close to, or below the poverty level. B. Some kids have to drop out to get a job to make ends meet at home.
