What element does he admit is beyond his control? The narrator’s father has tried to assure her financial stability and her temperamental compatibility by choosing Arjun for her future husband. Happiness, however, her father was not able to guarantee in her new marriage to her newly chosen husband. 2. What valuable lessons has the narrator learned from her father? The narrator learned that “class and conscience go together like a washerman and his donkey,” from her father. He taught her never to buy insurance.
