Discuss the history and/or layering of religions that exist in Indonesia. What makes Bali unique concerning religious development ? The culture of India and its Hindu/Buddhist religions had a remarkable influence on the elite classes in Bali. Bali was able to adapt newer and older beliefs in regards to religious practices. 6. What role do gamelan ensembles play in establishing and legitimizing royalty and power? How does the Javanese bedhaya song and dance reflect this assertion of status? Gamelan symbolizes idolatry during the mid-1700s, the spiritual power invested in the old gamelan traditionally translates into power of their owners. The sacred dance of the bedhaya originates from the kingship of music and dance.
