Hugo Duran HIS 101-07 HW #1 1. What was the “Black Legend” and how did it create justification for English colonization of North America? (you will need to read both section 2 and 4 to answer this question) The “Black Legend” was basically slaves and rapists. Religion was economic. It included i nhumane cruelty… England expansion. The Black Legend justified the English colonization in North America because it colonized economically, not religiously as we know it today. The Black Legend and England were connected since England tried to conquer Catholic Ireland, and it was economic. In what way did the “Black Legend” influence French and Dutch colonization in North America? The Dutch had more religious freedom and it was easier for them to colonize. The Dutch used conformity; not changing the Indians. They didn’t try to change the Indians’ religion, rather they let the Indians keep their religion so the Dutch could colonize them. The Black Legend was more enforcing, so it pushed people away.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
