Morett, Xavier P.5 AP World History September 7, 2013 Chapter 2 Outline- Classical Civilization: China I. The ancient Chinese civilization developed in unusual isolation that limited their contact with the outside world and lead to the formation of strong cultural identity and national pride. Despite this isolation, China was able to thrive on many levels including the formation of complex governments and bureaucracies, multiple religions and philosophies, and their multiple technological, scientific, and intellectual advancements. Despite constant problems with unity and occasional conflict, the Chinese civilization left a lasting impression that continues to influence the world to today. II. Civilizations and Countries a) Ancient/Classic China (as a whole-East Asia) i. 1500 BCE: First dynasty/formation of the civilization ii. 551-478 BCE: Life of Confucius the Philosopher (start of Confucianism) iii. 500 BCE: Formation of Daoism; editing of the 5 Classics iv. 444 BCE: Formation of Chinese calendar (based on 365.5 days) v. 402-201BCE: Era of Warring States vi.
