Rosaries and Necklaces Introduction Objects used in cults and sacred ceremonies have been of utilitarian and symbolic nature throughout the history of religion and cultures. These ritualistic objects play a critical role in maintaining communication between the supernatural and the profane realms. For the purpose of this paper, I have chosen the Catholic rosary. The Holy Rosary is used by Catholics over the world to meditate the glory of Jesus and Mary. As an ardent follower of the Catholic faith, I have always been interested in getting a better understanding of the Rosary. Despite the Rosary being the most emblematic object among the Catholics, its exact origin is less than clear and has been an issue of contention among scholars. Description The rosary is composed of twenty decades. Each decade is recited in honor of Our Lord’s life and that of his Blessed Mother. It is primarily made of beads divided into five sections. Each section is composed of one large bead and ten small ones. Members are expected to say the “Our Father” while holding the large bead, and the “Hail Mary” while on the smaller beads. The Gloria is recited in between the decades. The rosary can be obtained from any Catholic church, but it is quite easy to make one at home if one understands the procedure. It can be made from
