Hailey Hedspeth Netflix’s VOD 10 April 2016 The CEO of Netflix saw a problem and created Netflix to fix the issues. Netflix’s used a movie by mail system to create a market for online ordering, giving them an advantage over traditional store-based video purchasing business. This allowed them to create a proprietary recommendation system, surveying customers, meeting the wants better to the general market based on what the user liked. Customers got a reduced cost from Netflix, instead of buying in store new movies. The second benefit gave aid in the market exposure to older lesser-known movies as well as meeting the more broad interests of the general public. Yet, the pending threat has become a change of the market from mail order and store bought purchases to now in house “Video on Demand” (VOD) purchases, so this has become the next strategic issue. The “pay-per-view” with Internet downloading could threaten the movie by mail service. As all can be purchased online, allowing the online user to download videos and watch these from an android phone, laptop, computer or television. The name of this industry is an online media streaming service, for the Video on Demand market. The development of a strategic plan and the website to introduce people to the movie service is one of the entry-level barriers competition would have to surpass. Barriers to entry are development of the website, getting access to more than 20 million subscribers which Netflix intends to gain. The research done to develop market interest, likes and dislikes, gaining loyal customers is proprietary product knowledge Netflix’s has to continue meeting market demands. Technology engineers with proficiency and experience in the field would be required for a new company to enter the market who could hire employees to read and write lots of data developing
