Emily Ryan English 2020 Hawthorne’s “My Kinsman, Major Molineaux” (792-804) 10/26/07 1. What important information is given in the first paragraph of “My Kinsman, Major Molineux”? How does this information help us understand what happens to Robin’s kinsman at the end of the story? How can you use this information to make a connection between Hawthorne’s story and Franklin’s Autobiography ? In the first paragraph, it is stated that governors were appointed because of money in those days and the public did not like this. They often imprisoned the governors because they did not like him. This explains why they had Majro Molineaux tarred and feathered at the end of the story. Hawthorne’s story about this relates to the fact that Franklin traveled to a new place to get work. Franklin’s dedication to usefulness is also denied by the fact that the governors generally were not a good choice. 2.
