Emily Ryan English 2020 Ben Franklin 09/26/07 Day 1 1. Who is the named audience for Part I of Franklin’s Autobiography ? Now that you know the identity of Franklin’s intended reader, how does his subject matter seem appropriate? Ben Franklin wrote his Autobiography to his son William. He mentions fatherhood a lot in his first part of the text which is very appropriate considering that he is writing it to his son. I also feel that since he is writing it to his son, he is able to be a little more open in his words and a lot more sincere. For example, he admits to his vanity because he know that no one would believe him if he said that he wasn’t vain. 2. Fatherhood seems to be a theme in the first part of Franklin’s Autobiography. Describe his biological father and give several examples of the praise and appreciation he gives him. Describe the surrogate father who is responsible for teaching him a trade. How do they get along? Give examples from the text to show what you know about their
