Surname 1 Name Course Instructor Date Immigration The first wave of immigration into the US in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century was fueled by the rapid development of the American economy in the first half of the nineteenth century, which resulted in new opportunities (Hewitt and Lawson). The Civil War had also stimulated production in parts of the nation, such as the northern parts, and it resulted in a stable country economically and politically. The completion of the transcontinental railroad also played a significant role in allowing the immigrants to travel and goods to be transported. This provided transport infrastructure that later led to the great industrialization of the nation, which also attracted immigrants due to the availability of opportunities. The immigrants were mostly from European countries, also facilitated by the improved transport systems that allowed them to travel to their coastal towns to board ships to the US.
