HOMELAND SECURITY: PUBLIC SAFETY Item 1 My essay will be mainly exploratory. I intend to answer a few questions regarding Homeland Security that I came up with while preparing for this research paper. I arrived at this choice because of the realization that I was not particularly knowledgeable about the topic, and I would benefit a lot from conducting an inquiry into the subject, while at the same time, sharing this information with the reader. I am not interested in arguing what method is best, but rather, I intend to explore certain aspects of the topic that will offer me insight into what may work or not work for the public in regards to their safety. I will them combine this with a delayed thesis, to allow me to explore broader areas of the topic. This way, I will be able to provide interesting and even puzzling information about the topic that will add to the knowledge of the reader who is knowledgeable and not knowledgeable on the subject. Further, by using this method, I will be able to form an opinion at the end of the paper based on the information I have gathered and careful consideration of the details. Item 2 Ever since the September 11 attacks in the US, Americans have been paranoid about their security, especially in matters concerning terrorist acts in the nation. As a result, the department of Homeland Security was born to keep its citizen’s safe from natural and manmade disasters. A lot of effort and resources has been invested in law enforcement to ensure life and property are protected from internal and external threats. Although the move was averted, and DHS

HOMELAND SECURITY: PUBLIC SAFETY awarded funds for most of the year, various questions came up during this time. The most common being in regards to what would happen if DHS were to be shut down, its relevance and what role it plays in providing security. The focus of this paper is on possible results of Homeland Security shut down, with the view that the shutdown of the Homeland Security department would result in increased paranoia and vulnerability to terror attacks. It can be argued that Homeland Security has enhanced feelings of security despite its shortcomings. Item 3 A grand conclusion is excellent for any paper because it serves the purpose of reinforcing the author’s argument. It also, in brief, summarizes what the author has said throughout the essay, and proves the validity of the argument, further demonstrating how the author addresses and supports their thesis. In addition, it gives the author the chance to make a lasting impression to the reader regarding their opinion or argument, as well as offering directions for future research and new perspectives on the topic. It can also suggest relevant
