Running head: DISCUSSION 6 Discussion 6 Student’s name Institutional affiliation Discussion 6 1 What is ARP poisoning? How does it work? ARP poisoning refers to a network attack that occurs when the attacker manipulates the host ARP tables to redirect LAN traffic. The deflection could either be a man-in-the-middle attack (MITM), or an ARP DoS attack that involves bringing the traffic

DISCUSSION to a halt. This kind of attack requires that the attacker has access to a computer on the inside of the local network. ARP Poisoning works by using fabricated ARP responses to detect IP addresses to any MAC address. These answers are transmitted to all the hosts on the local network, giving the attacker the opportunity to control the ARP tables. The MITM attacks are carried out by conveying an uninterrupted stream of unnecessary ARP replies to all the hosts and gateway in the network. This stream sets the hosts’ and gateway IP addressed to one that matches the attacker’s MAC address. Consequently, all traffic going in and out of

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
