The Electromagnetic Spectrum The electromagnetic spectrum is the collective name for all types of radiation. Radiation is energy that travels around in waves. The electromagnetic spectrum goes from the waves with the lowest energy to those with the highest energy. According to Planck‘s law on Emissivity, ― All objects emit electromagnetic radiation, with the exception of objects at absolute zero. ” All Objects also reflect radiation that has been emitted by other objects. The process of recording emitted or reflected radiation and applying knowledge of its reaction as it passes through the Earth‘s atmosphere and interacts with targets. The study of remote sensing develops our knowledge in the character of features such as vegetation, structures, soils, rock, or water bodies on the Earth‘s surface. The interpretation of remote sensing imagery is dependent on a lucid understanding of electromagnetic radiation, its interaction with the atmosphere and consequently the earth surfaces.
