REFLECTIVE ANALYSIS 2 The health information systems course introduced us to the current and future healthcare technologies including electronic media record. We also learnt about integration of healthcare technologies within healthcare systems and application of wireless and internet systems to meet needs of healthcare practioners and their organizations. The details are discussed below: Electronic media records (EMR) Electronic medical records (EMR) keep patient records safe yet allow accessibility with in a network of physicians. Before the use of electronic medical records (EMR), a patient’s information was handwritten and sometimes hard for other to read which lead to misinterpretation by other medical staff. The federal government has mandated by the year 2014 that everyone has to have a system so health information can be recorded electronically. According to Dr. Hardeep Singh, “One reason health records were introduced was because we wanted to make health care safer, more effective and of higher quality; However, electronic health records present new hazards that were brought in with the use of technology and were not seen before.” (“Electronic Medical Records; Setting national goals to bolster patient safety with electronic health records,” 2012, para.2). Safety is the first thing; we want to know that the system we are using is safe.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
