Chapter 5: DBMS Differences between Application approach and Centralized approach 1. Application approach: --- concentrates on the process being performed; data play a secondary or supportive role to the programs that run in each application system --- each application collects and manages its own data, generally in dedicated, separate, physically distinguishable files for each application 2. Data Redundancy: --- data stored in multiple locations, occurs among the various files --- increases labour and storage costs because redundant data must be entered into the system more than once, and the system must store and maintain multiple versions of the same data in different files --- data residing in separate files might not be shareable among applications because of software and data format incompatibilities or network communications difficulties --- inconsistency when information is updated in one file and not in other files where it also resides 3. Centralized approach:

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
