Emily Ryan English 2020 Flannery O’Connor’s “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” (2432-2444) 12/5/2007 1. Who are the members of the Grandmother’s family? How do they relate to each other and to her? The Grandmother’s family consists of her son, Bailey, his wife, their son, John Wesley, their daughter, June Star, and their baby. Bailey does not think much of what his mother says. At the beginning of the story he simply ignored her when she asked to go to east Tennessee instead of Florida. June Star and John Wesley talk to their Grandmother a lot and bicker with each other a lot. John Wesley is very critical of things, as is June Star. The baby is passed between family members during the story. 2. Why do the Grandmother and Red Sammy Butts get along so well? What opinions do they share? The Grandmother and Red Sammy get along so well because they both like talking about the “good ol’ days”.
