the extent to which a piece of writing communicates clear information in as few words as possible questions: 1. If you were to rewrite this paragraph, could you make it clearer and more direct? How? Good writing is effortless reading that makes you want to read more. It is clear and concise, uses short sentences and simple words. It keeps to the facts and is easy to read and to understand. Plain English is clear English. It is simple and direct but not simplistic or patronising. Using plain English doesn’t mean everyone's writing must sound the same. There is no one ‘right’ way to express an idea. There's plenty of room for your own style—but it will only blossom once you have got rid of the poor writing habits that are typical of most business writing. short words in writing generally tend to communicate better than long words because short words are familiar words. A heavy proportions of long words leave an impression of difficulty. However, this doesn't mean that all short words are easy and all long words are hard. There are many exceptions. Here is an example of verbase writing that can be greatly improved by taking out the excess words and phrases the following are suggestions to achieve conciseness: 1. Use single-word subtitutes instead of phrases whenever possible without changing meanings.
