Homework procedures this semester
• Collaboration with other students is encouraged, but you must write up your homework in-
dependently in a manner that demonstrates your own understanding of the material. Credit
will not be given for homework that is a verbatim copy of other students’ homework or
material from the web.
• Homework must be written out or printed on paper, so our TA can write comments and
scores on your homework; no electronic submissions.
• Homework must be turned in in class and there is a 10% bonus given to homework
turned in on time .
• Homework may be turned in up to one week late for full credit (but no on-time bonus).
• To provide feedback and help you prepare for exams, homework solutions will be posted
on Moodle one week after the due date. Homework maybe turned in after the solutions
are posted and before the final exam for 50% credit, but there will be no credit for simply
copying the posted solutions.
Numerical homework (starting next week)
Starting with Homework Set 2, there will be occasional problems that will require you to write a
short computer program to make a plot or calculate something and print it out. If you haven’t
done this in a while, you might want to make sure you are ready for such problems, and get help
from me or the TA as needed.
