Keith Wilson Mrs. Rodriguez 5/7/2009 Roe vs. Wade Abortion throughout time has been a controversial matter in our society. Today in the United States it is legal to abort a baby up until the day of birth. The dictionary defines abortion as the ending of pregnancy before birth which results in the death of an embryo or a fetus. In (1973) Roe vs. Wade made it legal for a woman to have an abortion in the United States. In this essay I will go in depth to present both sides to this court case whether in my opinion abortion is right or wrong. Jane Roe, a single woman who was living in Dallas County, Texas, sued the district Attorney believing the Texas criminal abortion laws to be unconstitutional. Roe wished to have her pregnancy aborted due to the fact that she was unmarried and pregnant. She wanted the abortion to be performed by a competent, licensed physician, under safe clinical procedures. Due to the fact that her life was not endangered, Texas law stated that it was illegal for her to obtain an abortion within state boundaries. Traveling to another state to have the procedure performed was too costly and claimed it to be unconstitutional. Her argument was that Texas law broke the 1 st , 4 th , 5 th , 9 th , and 14 th amendment to personal privacy.
