An Iowa 3 rd grade teacher, Jane Elliott, wanted to make a difference. She wanted to let her students know what discrimination was all about. At the very beginning she speaks about “brotherhood” and the children immediately know their is a non-brotherhood with the blacks. She took everyday ordinary things and made one better than the other, i.e. blue eyes versus brown eyes. She wanted to get a point across that discrimination is not acceptable.
