2 Avoiding Unauthorized Practice of Law Avoiding Unauthorized Practice of Law In the wide practice of law, practicing attorneys seek services of paralegals from time to time and depending on the nature of the task. “These instances occur particularly when a paralegal taking up other marginal tasks may leave them only performing key tasks for instance advising on legal rights, negotiation or settlement and management of a law practice among others. However, such delegation of these duties could result in the unauthorized practice of law.” (Needham, 1995) Of first importance is to get an illustration of who a paralegal is. These are special group of individuals who offer assistance to attorneys in the conveyance of their legal services. Based on formal education, various drills, and involvement over time these legal assistants pose the knowledge and proficiency apropos the legal system and essential and procedural law. “Such know-how makes them eligible to do work of a legal nature on the supervision of an attorney.” (Rhode, 1990) “Paralegals have a critical role to play in any given legal setting. They assist attorneys in upholding and consolidating files, exploring legal cases and arranging contracts and legal documents.” (Stevenson, 1974) Nonetheless, this profession requires given key attributes to succeed. The most significant characteristics of an effective paralegal are as below. 1. Organized Paralegals are fundamentally the detail experts on any given legal team. To be in a position of prosperity, a paralegal needs a high organization traits and efficiency in managing time. “Vital roles comprise examining cases and consolidating files of imperative legal documents.”(Needham, 1995) “Attorneys have to present a case in the courtroom in a chronological model to relay a story of that which happened.” (Johnstone, 2003) They count on
