Legalization of Using Marijuana“Marijuana orCannabis sativais well defined as the dried leaves, flowers, stems, andseeds from the hemp plant which contains the psychoactive chemical tetrahydrocannabinol(THC), as well as other related compounds. This plant material can also be concentrated in aresin called hashish (NIDA).” This plant has been proven to treat a certain number of diseasessuch as cancer, multiple sclerosis, and epilepsy. Some countries legalized the use of marijuana asmedicine like in Canada, Columbia, Turkey, United States and Uruguay. Attitude towardscommunity effect from cannabis legalization is rarely studied. Nonetheless, it seems thatindividuals in favor of cannabis legalization report that it is not a bad thing for the community todecriminalize cannabis. Furthermore, those who argue against legalization claim cannabislegalization harms the community and claims it sends the wrong message about drug use to thepeople in the community, specifically to young people. Those who favor the legalization attemptto counter this view with the argument that prohibition has been an expensive failure where theprevalence is increasing enormously and that cannabis legalization has a more positive effect onthe community than the prohibition.
