Int. Mngmt. 04/22/07 Competing Systems System Advantages and Disadvantages When comparing the American System with the German system there are certain advantages and disadvantages for each that come into view. In regards to the American system, hard work and efficiency seem to be the motivators. From the corporation side of things, employees are trained in two to three days. This is a very cheap and time saving advantage that is practiced by J.C. Penny. IF the employee turnover is very high this cheap training is advantageous because a new employee can be used to quickly replace the old. Unfortunately, this also represents a disadvantage for the corporate American system. The employees are trained very fast and it is hard for them to master even the basics of their craft. As a result, a lack in training will make the employee less valuable in the long run because he has to learn all the specifics of his job while he is being employed with no grace period. There are also advantages and disadvantages on the employee level in the American system. The American employee works a much longer week with hours extending into the evenings. The employee also experiences none of the benefits that the
