IntroductionThe popular automotive company, Tesla, Inc., is more than just a car manufacturer;Based on change and innovation, Tesla offers zero-emission vehicles and clean energysolutions that address the increases in concern over environmental pollution and a healthiereconomy.Tesla founder and CEOElon Musklaunched the company with the mission, “toaccelerate the advent of sustainable transport by bringing compelling mass-market electric carsto market as soon as possible.” This mission is the backbone of Tesla’s successful businessmodel (Zucchi, 2021). Tesla is able to improve the world’s sustainable energy with the use oftheir electric vehicles, batters, and solar panels and holds steady with a business model closelycentered around their Corporate Social Responsibility. By creating a compelling vehicle andusing an approach opposite of most automotive manufacturers, Tesla created a demand forelectric vehicles in which the company directly sells to its consumers, therefore there are nofranchised dealerships, buying experiences are better, there are no showroom conflicts.Thisinnovative market is steadily rising in popularity and Tesla continues to expand its efforts increating a future using advanced energy saving products and solutions.Discuss Tesla’s business and purpose.A business is any activity that provides goods or services to consumers for the purpose ofmaking a profit (UMGC,Getting Down to Business,2022). Tesla’s business and purpose is morethan that of the average automotive manufacturing business; according to Musk, the goal whenTesla was created is the same as it is today: to accelerate the advent of sustainable transport bybringing compelling mass market electric cars to market as soon as possible (Musk, 2003).Tesla was founded in 2003 by a group of engineers to develop an entirely electricvehicle that would prove to consumers that they did not need to compromise luxury and
design to drive electric. Proving that electric vehicles can be better, quicker, and more fun todrive than gasoline cars was the vision of founders Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning (Tesla,2002).Tesla, Inc. designs, develops, manufactures, sells and leases electric vehicles and energygeneration and storage systems, and offers services related to its sustainable energy products(Reuters Editorial, n.d.). Tesla released its first model, the luxury Tesla Roadster in 2008 and soldmore than two thousand of these high-performance electric sports cars for production ended in2012. Other models of vehicles produced include the Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y;these models are accompanied by production of energy storage products such as Solar Roof andSolar Panels within the energy division of Tesla, Inc. According to the U.S. Department ofEnergy,Tesla has produced battery packs, electric motors, and other powertrain components thatwill power all-electric, plug-in vehicles—not only Tesla’s, but also those of other vehiclemanufacturers (n.d.)In today’s economy, the expectations of consumers are shifting towards clean energysolutions and the use of sustainable and eco-friendly products. Tesla believes the faster the worldstops relying on fossil fuels and moves towards a zero-emission future, the better (Tesla, 2002).
