The Hawthorne effect is an experiment that was conducted to see what happens to
employees when they notice that someone, particularly in management, cares about them and
their well-being in the workplace. The relationship here refers to whether the managers would
always have the employees under constant supervision and also the working conditions.
Research has found that when employees are aware, they are under observation; there are fewer
incidences of time wastage and as such productivity increases by a noticeable margin.
Some necessary changes in the working environment like changes to the work structure
can be major influencing factors on the employees motivation to work. For instance, changing
lighting system and also ventilation systems for employees working in a warehouse environment
has proven to have an impact on employee attitudes. Also, improvements to work conditions, for
