Dialogue between Claire and Justine (1:29:53-1:33:09) During the dialogue between Claire and Justine (1:29:53-1:33:09) in Melancholia , Claire expresses apparent anxiety about the apocalypse. The dialogue begins right after the short, speechless scene of horses roaring, looking nervous (1:29:49-1:29:51). Contrary to this close-up framing with low-key lighting capturing the agitated horses predicting a disaster, the scene begins with high-key lighting, highlighting Justine’s tranquility towards the upcoming apocalypse. Claire enters the scene with medium shot, asking Justine to take a bath. When she hears an unbelievable response from Claire that she has already taken a bath by herself, there is a jump cut (1:30:06) leading into her abrupt change of topic. This jump cut serves to emphasize the transition of topic from routinely matter to the more concerned topic of melancholia. Claire seems nervous because of little father’s absence. The camera pans to capture her facial expressions while she heads towards the table. Soft lighting coming from the natural light
