Facts of the Case Saudi Arabia is a Middle Eastern country that is influenced heavily by Islam. A king rules over Saudi Arabia and one of his officials has contacted Robert Auger, the executive vice president of sky blue, and in essence told him that if he wanted to win the Saudi contract for the 10 aircraft he needed to provide a substantial bribe to the official to keep him in the running. Legal and Business Considerations When considering the facts of the case an obvious legal issue arises. Paying this bribe to the foreign official is in direct violation of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which states that influencing foreign officials through personal payment or political contributions is illegal. If Auger bribes the Saudi official he is risking himself and his business, if he is caught his company will be fined and he will be sent to jail. Auger must also consider the business issues in dealing with the Saudis. Saudi Arabia
