bible and western culture 10/10/2007 11:39:00 Portrayal of moses has changed throughout the ages.  Today: ten commandments, golden rule, arc of covenant Ten commandments: Appear in exodus and book of Deuteronomy – slightly different.  See slides for commandments Henotheism – god of Israelites only possible for Israelites amoung other  possible deities Strict monotheism comes later.  Apodictic law – absolute – no conditions attached to commandments, do or  don’t.  Early jewish tradition – commandments recited daily in temple. It seems Different traditions have different wording of commandments Historically, what probably took place, assuming that this actually happened,  all ten commandments would be on each tablet, one for Israelites and one for  the other group?  YaHWeH – lord’s name – adonai, lord. Changed vowel points so that you
