Nicole Pettit Zach Fort Com 101 Topic: Anti-Smoking General Purpose: To Persuade Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience to see the negative effects of smoking and to either quit themselves or get others in their lives to see the harm. Thesis: Smoking not only contains ingredients which are very harmful to the person inhaling them, but they are dangerous for people around them and the environment. People say it’s a way to reduce stress, but there are plenty of other ways to do this. I. Introduction A. Attention Getter: Over 8.5 million Americans live with tobacco-related illnesses. B. Reason to Listen: Smoking is something which is very prevalent in our society and is harmful not only to those smoking, but to everyone else around them. C. Thesis Statement: Smoking not only contains ingredients which are very harmful to the person inhaling them, but they are dangerous for people around them and the environment. People say it’s a way to reduce stress, but there are plenty of other ways to do this. D. Credibility Statement: 1. I know many people who smoke, and have seen people die from the effects of cigarettes. 2. I have done extensive research on the internet about many different aspects of smoking. E.
