Abraham Lincoln was born February 12, 1809 in Kentucky, where he would later move to Indiana and live out his childhood life. Before his presidency Lincoln did it all, enlisted in the military, ran for state legislature, became a Postmaster, elected as a Whig, studied law, served as a US Representative, all before getting nominated for presidency by the Republican Party in 1860 (Kelly Martin). Though Lincoln did not win the presidency until 1860, due to the North winning the Civil War at the time. Though on April 14, 1865, Lincoln was assassinated in Ford Theater by John Wilkes Booth (Kelly Martin). During Lincoln’s presidency something had to lead Booth into caring out this assassination. Lincoln favored the abolishment of slavery which no doubtable gave him many enemies. Maybe just knowing who John Wilkes Booth was would shed some light on why this happened? Abraham Lincoln throughout his life claimed to antislavery, but never coming out until his term as President with the “Emancipation Proclamation.” This freed all slaves that were in the rebellion states during the Civil War (Emancipation Proclamation). Being a strong supporter of the 13 th Amendment (abolishment of slavery) and his last speech being in favor of African Americans getting the right to vote (United States), easily brought up enemies who favored slavery.
