INTELLIGENCE 1 Sho Yano and Intelligence Theory Sho Yano’s exceptional intellectual abilities provide an interesting case of what seems to be savant syndrome, just minus the syndrome. He has from the very beginning of his life, learned extremely quickly, and excels not only in mathematics and science, but in all disciplines of academia (including the creative arts). Theories of intelligence provide a way to make sense of, and measure, the fact that each of us differs in our talent and ability in any given area of life. Different theories have strengths and certainly apply to Sho Yano’s abilities, but I feel that Sternburg’s triarchic theory fits Sho Yano the best. Sternburg suggests three basic types of intelligence: Practical, creative, and analytical. Sho Yano displays all of these qualities in an exemplary manner. Simply the fact that he earned his
