The definition of a performance appraisal “is the process through which employee performance is assessed, feedback is provided to the employee, and corrective action plans are designed” (Youssef, 2015); Performance appraisals are needed to be used to seek opportunities of encouragement and better enhancement of an employee’s skills. You also view the employees goals and see where they would like to be within the company and also see how the company can benefit from what the employee has to offer the company; as well as taking on new assignments that will lead the team to a better understanding of their job and the company’s vision. Throughout this paper you will learn “advantages of performance appraisals, forms of bias and how performance appraisals contribute to achievement of strategic objectives” (assignment prompt). Youssef (2015) states “succession planning is one very important area that performance appraisals serve”. He then goes on to state that p erformance appraisal is to “determine job placement decisions such as promotions, demotions, and transfers” (Youssef 2015).
