Results and Discussion: Lab 1 The purpose of this lab was to gain a better understanding of density by determining the densities of two unknown substances, liquid #2 and solid #4. Mass of solid #4 was found using a highly calibrated balance. Volume of solid #4 was then found by placing an amount of water into a graduated cylinder, measuring initial volume, adding solid sample, then subtracting the difference in volume.
